SINGLE REVIEW: “Dance With the Devil” by Preacher Stone

Preacher Stone are an American southern rock band, formed back in 2008  Charlotte, North Carolina, by songwriters Marty Hill and Ronnie Riddle. They released their self-titled debut album in August 2009. You may think you haven’t heard of them before, but if you watched the popular FX Networks television series Sons of Anarchy, you’ll have heard them before, with their music prominent in two seasons, especially Not Today taken fom their debut release.

This year, they released their fifth album “V”, and their first in seven years, and Preacher Stone delivered a blinder with an album full of power, and straight up no-nonsense Southern rock and roll. The album is available to buy from the band HERE.

We were lucky to catch Preacher Stone on a co-headline tour last year onboard Thekla in Bristol with Sons of Liberty, and they delivered a stunning set. A brilliant night of foot stompin’ rock. A great live band, so watch out for future UK shows !

And Wednesday this week (18th September), sees the release of the latest single Dance With the Devil taken from “V”. Singer Ronnie Riddle muses on the song's theme “There’s a darker undercurrent to life and everybody has their secrets. A lot of things are hidden and folk who are supposed to be good underneath aren’t and others who are viewed as bad down at heart aren’t, it’s a blurred fine line be

It opens with drums and a subtle bass line that had me unexpectedly wanting to sing the opening to  We Care A Lot by Faith No More, but almost immediately the crushing guitar riffs hit us full force. The drums remain the main focus of the sound, powering through the track relentlessly, providing the perfect backdrop to Ronnie Riddle’s swaggering vocals, delivering a warning to all about falling for temptation, because as he points out, ‘the Devil always wins’.

It has a real rock edge to it, towering riffs and a catchy chorus that has you tappin’ along but also those classic laid back country vibes. This one is sure to be a huge hit in the live set, but equally at home, sat alone with a bourbon on the porch.

Another great track from the masters of Southern Rock, and a worthy 9.0/10 from LiveWire.tween what’s good and bad”.
