SINGLE REVIEW: “Liar” from Amelle Rose

SINGLE REVIEW: “Liar” from Amelle Rose

Amelle Rose is something special…. very special, and I hope her music can break through and reach a much wider audience, which it so richly deserves.

She uses song to transform powerfully introspective and atmospheric experience, into dreamy soundscapes inspired by deeply intimate memories and experiences, alongside gutsy indie rock songs that take advantage of fiercely honest lyrics and a distinctive, rebellious sound. Described by Clout as “creating a vulnerable and honest energy”, both sides of Amelle’s music are as wistful and brooding as they are strong, bold, and unapologetic.

The 27 year old, originally from France, but now at home in Bristol, focuses much of her work around mental health and the human condition, which pairs beautifully with her distinctively open approach to composition and songwriting. Her debut album “Conversations with Louise,” released in 2022, marked a significant milestone in her artistic journey, showcasing her talent for fearlessly vulnerable and introspective storytelling.

Amelle’s talent has been recognised by the Help Musicians charity, who has awarded her funding to help produce her upcoming new EP “Yours Sincerely” planned for release on 7th November 2024.

Earlier this summer, we reviewed her second single from the forthcoming EP Wish You Well which got a score of 9.0/10, and now she’s back with her new track Liar which is out on 19th September.

You can check out the video for Wish You Well below:

Liar is a deeply haunting and poignant track, which dives headfirst into the turbulent dynamics of a strained family relationship, bringing buried emotions and unresolved pain to the surface. The song captures a sense of betrayal and abandonment, confronting the facade of family ties with stark honesty and profound disillusionment.

Liar starts with a few bars of acuostic guitar, reminiscent of Wish You Were Here quickly joined by the vocals, and slowly, it sonically grows with the introduction of the drums and electric guitar, building, like the swirling emotions it portrays.

The vocals are stunning and Amelle’s delivery is perfect, handling a mix of soft & delicate, and powerful tones with ease. In places it reminded me of Julianne Regan, the incredible singer of All About Eve, with its ability to express and deliver emotion in such as expressive way, that you can almost physically feel.

Liar is almost eerie at times, as the music and the vocals deliver a finely tuned balance between being vulnerable and yet at other times, expressing bitterness, brilliantly capturing the emotional wreckage that comes from broken trust.

As it builds intensity, Liar transforms to an almost cathartic release of anger and sorrow. It leaves the listener with a lasting, alost unsettling feeling.

I love it. The emotion just oozes and drips from every note & line, and keeps you handing on for the next. It has that classic brooding appeal of such dark classics as Martha’s Harbour (All About Eve) and Where the Wild Roses Grow (Nick Cave/Kylie).

Amelle Rose does it again, delivering deep dreamy sundscapes of the highest order and I genuinely can’t wait for the release of the full EP in November.

A cracking 9.5/10 from us here at LiveWire.

Out on 19th September 2024, Liar is the third single release leading up to the new EP “Yours Sincerely”, which is set to be released on 7th November 2024.
