SINGLE REVIEW “Wish You Well” by Amelle Rose
Today, we’re so pleased to bring you something new, and quite special, as indie rock singer-songwriter Amelle Rose announces her new single "Wish You Well" out today, and taken from her forthcoming new EP “Yours Sincerely” out on 7th November 2024.
We came across Amelle recently when she supported The Xaviers (along with Trans Siberian Express) at The Louisiana in Bristol, and I knew immediately we’d come across something very special, as she delivered a stunning solo performance with her delightfully vocals, with great tone and range backed simply by a peppermint green Jazzmaster delivering some great fuzzy effects laden tones, creating a dark and emotive performance. (Check out the review HERE).
27 year old Amelle is a French born singer-songwriter now making a new home for herself in Bristol. A lot of her work is focused around mental health and the human condition, which pairs beautifully with her distinctively open approach to composition and songwriting. Her debut album, “Conversations with Louise” released in 2022 marked a significant milestone in her artistic journey, showcasing her talent for fearlessly vulnerable and introspective storytelling. There is a deeply personal feel to her songwriting and when we met briefly at The Xaviers show she described her indie-rock style as being “sad girl rock, and more like a therapeutic journalling”.
Transforming song into a powerfully introspective and atmospheric experience, Amelle Rose is able to navigate dreamy soundscapes inspired by deeply intimate memories and experiences, alongside gutsy indie rock songs that take advantage of fiercely honest lyrics and a distinctive,
rebellious sound. Described by Clout as “creating a vulnerable and honest energy”, both sides of Amelle’s music are as wistful and brooding as they are strong, bold, and unapologetic.
Amelle’s commitment to her craft has recently been recognised by the charity Help Musicians, who has awarded her funding for her upcoming EP “Yours Sincerely” scheduled for release in November 2024.

In describing the new single Wish You Well Amelle explains that it’s a hauntingly atmospheric song that delves into her own experience with hypersensitivity. Through a powerful exploration of profound empathy, the song lays bare the complexities of blurring the line between the suffering of others and personal pain. Though empathy is often celebrated, Amelle reveals how it can feel like a burden she carries in silence.
The track starts quietly, reminiscent for me of the sound of Nottingham based spoken poetry duo Cracked Hands, before it gradually builds in tone and intensity. The lyrics are personal and dripping with heart-felt emotion describing how it feels to take on others aches and pains, with lines like “Assign me your aches, Honour the way I soak up everybody’s tears today. A curse in disguise, Tuck it out of sight. It will fade away in good time”.
And as the track develops, this changes to feelings of guilt echoed in the music by the addition of a drum beat which feels almost like an angry pulse, building, getting stronger which builds to an atmospheric crescendo that mirrors the deep feelings of anxiety: "If I write about it, does that make me a narcissist?".
As the track draws to an end, it becomes reflective on the social pressures that affect us, pushing us to maintain a facade of strength repeating the line “"shut down your emotions" becomes a desperate plea, revealing a futile attempt to manage her overwhelming surge of feelings.
There is a wonderful echoey feel to the guitar which impart an almost ethereal or dreamy edge to it and alongside the impactful and authentic lyrics, it delivers a rich sonic experiences that build profound connections between listener and creator through her fearless vulnerability.
I love it ! Amelle’s vocals are exquisite, both delicate and emotional but also capable of great strength. Tonally the track is spot on. Amelle takes personal experience and uses it so effectively to explore and embrace the nuances of the human experience. There are no answers in Wish You Well, it leaves the listener confronting the uncomfortable truths it exposes, which is a recurrent theme throughout the tracks in the upcoming new EP “Yours Sincerely”.
A fine 9.0 from LiveWire, and I can’t wait to hear the full EP.

“Wish You Well” Lyrics
Assign me your aches
Honour the way I soak up everybody’s tears today
A curse in disguise
Tuck it out of sight
It will fade away in good time
But I’ll still take your pain with me tonight
Why would I need holding when I’m just fine?
But I wish you well
But I ain’t no martyr
I’ll make up for all that my father couldn’t posture
Couldn’t be like him
If I write about it
Does that make me a narcissist?
So I’ll quietly take your pain with me tonight
Oh I’ll hold it all in til’ I just drown
And I’ll wish you well
Shut down your emotions
Don’t make it your own problem
Easier said than done
Be a good girl, hush up
Contain all the hurting
You’re too fucking sensitive
Shut down your emotions
Let them bounce back in the long run
Shut down your emotions
Shut down your emotions
Shut down your emotions
Shut down your emotions
