Mad Dog McRea / Rescue Rooms Nottingham

Mad Dog McRea / Rescue Rooms Nottingham

Last night a packed Rescue Rooms played host to Plymouth’s own festival favourites Mad Dog McRea and their unique mix of folk / punk / gypsy music.

Last night Plymouth based Mad Dog Mcrea took to the stage at the Rescue Rooms in front of a packed house. Fronted by Plymouth Publican Michael Mathieson, with the excellent Nicki Powell on fiddle and Dan Crimp on flute, Mad Dog have developed a cult following with their infectious brand of British folk music, blending a wide range of influences from folk rock, pop, gypsy jazz to bluegrass. A fantastic set covering all their well known tracks including Black Fly, happy bus, and perhaps one of the bets cover versions out there with their version of Richard Thompson’s classic Bees Wing.

All the way from Penzance in Cornwall, support was provided by the brilliant Bluegrass quartet the Flats & Sharps. Formed over eight years ago, the Flats & Sharps mix traditional foot stomping bluegrass with folk, country and pop.
