POSE release their new single “American Factory”

Way back when….. well February 2021 actually, we introduced you to a new band called POSE and their debut single Ten Miles. We loved it here at LiveWire, and after what seems like ages, they’re back with a new track American Factory out this Friday, 23rd September 2022 on all major streaming platforms.

POSE are Ruby (Vocals and guitar), Marc (Guitar and Vocals) and Richard (Bass) Having come from backgrounds covering indie pop, grunge, and post-punk, POSE have unearthed a collective sonic understanding that bridges elements of hard hitting alternative rock, scintillating pop, and grandiose soundscaping. This culminates in a sound which blends Ruby’s ‘hypnotic yet soulful’ voice over music which is full to the brim of ‘teeth and claws’.

This desire to push creative boundaries is what POSE is all about and has seen them continue to create an unadulterated product into which they have poured their heart and soul. So on to the new single American Factory. The band describe it as a simple yet hard hitting punk inspired song. With Intricate guitar lines weaving in and out of one another as they sit over an almost mechanical driving bass line.

Throughout the song the vocals vary in intensity, sometimes floating airily above the music while at other times digging in with aggression and emotion and eventually all out shouting. The lyrics offer a subtle introspection over the role schools and societies play in sculpting children into teenagers, almost as though they've come straight off a production line.

Well, I can’t really describe the new track any better than they did above ! I will say though, the new single American Factory is an absolute cracker ! You know those Mine fireworks that streak into the sky and explode in an almighty blast ? Well, that’s how POSE’s new single hits you right from the off. It starts with a blast !..... A screaming guitar riff from Ruby, somewhat reminiscent of the sound of something like The Slow Readers Club with it’s intensity and power, before fading away to allow Richard’s wonderful powerful bass tones to take over for the opening verse. The bass reminds me of IST IST, another great up and coming British band.

During the verse sections Ruby’s vocals are pitched just right - Soft and sensual riding over the bass, with guitars more in the background echoing in the distance, waiting for the musical break section to erupt again in a wall of noise. Each line repeated which I liked and adds drama to the delivery, the lyrics paint a seedy and dark sense of foreboding and escapism.

As the track develops, it becomes more intense. The final vocal sections are more dramatic and higher pitched - more intense and immediate… more urgent. The sounds envelop the vocals and everything reaches a fever pitch before dropping off a cliff edge, delivered so beautifully by a vocal ‘ahhhhh’ leading the final lines to be delivered against the simple bass lines, before fading away with the words “Real… Life… god…” The final few vocal lines reminded me of Marisa and the Moths, again, no bad thing at all in my view !

American factory is out this Friday (23 September). I’ve been listening to it on and off for a few days now, and I have to say, it’s one of the bets new tracks I’ve heard in a long time. It’s powerful and crazy, then delicate and subtle before exploding again. But it’s not just ‘noise’ the tones are crisp and clear, and you can always hear the supporting rhythm underneath.

A fantastic track, and well worth the wait from POSE. Not perfect, but pretty much there, and one I’ll be enjoying for some time. Well worth a 9.5 from LiveWire Music….. Here’s to plenty more of this please POSE !

Lyrics

'Everybody wants some,

Everyone wants some.

Tell him he’s so handsome,

Tell him he’s so handsome.

Put him up for ransom,

Put him up for random.

‘Cause everybody wants some,

Everybody wants some.

Everybody like her,

Everybody like her.

But no one really knows her,

No one really knows her.

Just know she’s a dancer,

Just know she’s a dancer.

And everybody likes her,

Everybody likes her.

How long can you go for?

How long till you ask for more?

How long will you for?

How long till you ask for more?

You wanna know what she did?

Then what are waiting for?

I’ll tell you what love is for.

I’ll tell you what love is for.

You wanna know who she is?

Then what are you waiting for?

She’s anything but a whore.

Anything but a whore.

You wanna know what she did?

Then what are you waiting for?

I’ll tell you what love is for.

I’ll tell you what love is for.

You wanna know who she is?

Then what are you waiting for?

She’s nothing else but a whore.

Nothing else but a whore.

You get what you pay for.

Real life god'
