Munatix new single “Burning Up” out this Friday

Munatix is an electro synthpop duo made up of Ricky (Erik Knockaert, who provides the lead vocals) and Josh (Jos Sleurs, who concentrates on the composition and production), and are from Genk in Belgium.

We reviewed their last single You Just Keep Hanging On in July 2020 and gave it a score of 8.5 and it has gone on to be streamed over 100,00 times in the last year. Their style is very much 1980’s and in particular focuses on their love of vintage analogue synth gear. Their influences include Vince Clarke, Jean Michal Jarre and Chromeo. Although Ricky is at heart a guitar player with a love for Jimi Hendrix !

So their latest single Burning Up is out this Friday 24 September 2021 and is available now to pre-save on all streaming services.

I Grew up on 80’s music. Admittedly, at the time I liked the darker side of synth music, with artists such as Gary Numan and Cabaret Voltaire dominating my listening, but I also loved artists such as Depeche Mode, Human League and Ultravox, and had a secret liking for more synthpop stuff in the form of bands like Blancmange and Erasure when no one could see me dancing lol.

Munatix are an outstanding band. They take the tone, and feel of the 80s synthpop but give it a modern edge and feel. This new track certainly has the Giorgio Moroder disco beat feel to itand it has a lively, cheerful and upbeat feel to it. The drum machine and bassline sequences have a pounding rhythm that will stick in your head for a long time afterwards. Their synth tone creation and production standards are exceptional resulting in sounds that are crisp and bright.

It kind of mixes things up a bit, it feels very much like a brilliant disco track to dance the night away to, but with a new wave influence in there too. It certainly has an energetic vibe to it. Vocals are short and uncomplicated, processed to give a slightly cosmic space age feel to them….. just great to sing along to.

This one is one to dance to with your arms in the air all night long. This is one of those tracks that just makes you smile. It made me smile the first time I heard it, and I smile every time I put it on. What more could you want from good music, but to lift your mood ?

Another great offering from the Genk duo, and for me, better than their previous single You Just Keep Hanging On, so Burning Up gets a whopping 9.0 from LiveWire Music.
