LiveWire Spotify Playlist #3 - Country / Americana
Time for another LiveWire Music Spotify playlist to help you beat those lockdown blues. Our first two playlists hopefully introduced you to new forms of music you may not have heard of (psychobilly) or thought you would try (metal). We hope you enjoyed them. This one is a little different for us at LiveWire….. Country / Americana ….. Now first up, you won’t find any old school country here – No Tammy Wynette, or Dolly to be found anywhere. These are more modern from established and up coming names on the country music scene and also a few which are more influenced by the Louisiana Blues. We highlight a mix of artists from across the pond, but also the cream of the crop from the UK Country scene such as Kezia Gill, Stuart Landon and Holly Rose Webber.
Highlights on the playlist worth a special mention:
The Dead South – Canada’s own folk-bluegrass musical ensemble hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan. Rising to fame via YouTube with their videos for songs such as ‘Banjo Odyssey’ and ‘In Hell I’ll be in Good Company’. With a stylish look and almost punk edge to their frontier styled songs, these guys are one to see live !
Stuart Landon – Nottingham’s own, and an award winning singer / songwriter. Along with his band The Angels with Dirty Faces, Stuart has had a string of recent hits, most recently with ‘Beautiful Mess’. On this playlist we highlight the other recent single ‘I Sinned’ which LiveWire reviewed and awarded our first 5/5, and the incredible ‘P.S. I Loved You’ an emotional and powerful song about lost love. Stuart’s talent is his songwriting, producing incredibly powerful and highly emotive lyrics, but with a voice to carry the songs off to perfection.
Nick13 – Better known as the singer / guitarist and songwriter for top American Psychobilly band Tiger Army, Nick13 has a lifelong love of Country and Americana, and his self-titled debut album is outstanding from opening bars to last. His vocal style perfectly fits the wild west feel, and this is demonstrated perfectly by the track ‘Carry my body down’ the story of a wild west hangin’
Kezia Gill – Most of the most exciting, and talented artists currently on the UK country scene voted the British Country Music Associations female artist of the year for 2019. Kezia is developing a great reputation both here and across the pond, having recently played in Nashville at iconic venues such as Puckett's Leiper's Fork, the Bluebird and the Ryman. Here we have the wonderful ‘I’m Here’. Written on site during the Buckle and Boots Festival for the Sunday morning service, it went on to headline an awareness campaign by Kezia for suicide prevention, encouraging fans to use the hashtag #imhere to show their support for friends and family who may be suffering from mental health issues. Simple, and bursting with emotion, it highlights Kezia’s incredible vocals perfectly. Her new single ‘Another You’ is out tomorrow (Friday 17 April).
Chris Stapleton – Originally from Lexington Kentucky, before moving to Nashville to pursue a career in music, Chris is a prolific songwriter and is credited with writing and co-writing over 170 songs. The track we highlight here is ‘Tennessee Whiskey’, originally written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove, from his 2015 debut solo album ‘Traveller’ which was named 2015 Country Music Association Awards album of the year, and went on to win the 2016 Grammy Awards, and Billboard Music Awards best country album titles.
We hope you find something you love here, and it introduces you to the wonderful world of modern Country music.
