Clutch / Rock City / Nottingham
US stoner rock legends Clutch ended their 2019 UK tour with an incredible set at Rock City
Friday night was a real treat for rock fans in Nottingham. Clutch are one of those unmissable live bands. Hailing from Frederick, Maryland the US Stoner Rockers formed in 1991 and after 12 studio albums are still going strong with a cult following. Tim Sult (guitar) Dan Maines (bass) Jean-Paul Gaster (drums) and Neil Fallon (vocals) delivered a high energy set including many of their best tracks including Spacegrass, Fortunate Son and HB Is In Control (full set list below). Singer Neil dominates the stage with a wild, somewhat maniacal style, which reminded me of Joe Talbot, singer with Bristol’s own punks the Idles. Clutch didn’t put a foot wrong all night and left the faithful crowd screaming for more.
Setlist: How to shake hands / Ghoul wrangler / HB is in control / La Curandera / Spleen Merchant / Prison Planet / Spacegrass / Passive restraints / Red horse rainbow / X-ray visions / Firebirds / Soapmakers / 10001110101 / Ghost / Cypress Grove / Wolfman
Encore: EW / Fortunate Son
Clutch were well supported by two incredible Scandinavian bands. First up we had Kamchatka, a Swedish rock trio influenced by late 1960s and early 1970s blues rock bands. Their sound combines elements of blues rock, stoner rock and psychedelic rock. Kamchatka took their name from the volcanically active Russian Kamchatka Peninsula that divides the Okhotsk and the Bering Sea. Thomas ‘Juneor’ Andersson wonderful vocals and guitar work were complimented perfectly by Tobias Strandvik (drums) and Per Wiberg (bass & vocals).
Also from Sweden, Graveyard are a blues / psychedlic rock band from Gothenburg formed in 2006 consisting of Joakim Nilsson (guitar & vocals) Jonatan Larocca-Ramm (guitar & vocals) Truls Mörck (bass & vocals) and Oskar Bergenheim (drums).
