The Amity Affliction / Rock City / Nottingham
Back at Rock City, for what promises to be a night of brutal, heavy metal ! Opening up on the night are Mugshot, a metalcore band from California. Not a band we’d come across before, but what a surprise they were live. Some pounding heavy riffs and course guttural vocals dominated in a truly powerful set. The energy levels were fantastic and the crowd really got into their sound. A great start to the night.
Next was a band I’d heard a lot about - Alpha Wolf from Tasmania, Australia. Their 2020 album “A Quiet Place To Die” has had a huge impact on the metalcore scene and brought the band to a wider audience. And good job too, their set was fantastic, full of energy and power. The style was aggressive and raw, but the musical skill shone throughout the set. Alpha Wolf are a band to watch out for.
The final support act tonight Comeback Kid, from Winnipeg in Alberta, Canada. Formed back in 2001 they are a band with a lot of heritage behind them, and headliners in their own right. Ledf by the vocals of singer Andrew Neufeld, they delivered an impressive set. Perhaps slightly different from the others, their sound is more hardcore punk than metalcore, but no matter, the energy levels were fantastic, setting us up nicely for the headliners !
Rock City was packed by now, ready for the mighty Australian headliners The Amity Affliction, all the way from Gympie, Queensland. Formed back in 2003 they delivered a set including new material from their recent 2023 album “Not Without My Ghosts”.
The atmosphere was fantastic, with a great light show and stage set up, the guys dominated the stage and delivered an epic set. The band had a great relationship with the crowd and some incredible melodies along with some beautiful and at times dark and aggressive material.
A fantastic night with four bands, all delivering great sets.
