Teenage Dads release cover of the Buggles classic “Video Killed the Radio Star"
2022 breakthrough act - Teenage Dads - have announced their highly anticipated upcoming EP “Midnight Driving”, due out on Friday 3 March via Chugg Music.
Hailing from Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula, the breakthrough indie-act are showing no signs of slowing down. Teenage Dads kicked off 2022 playing to some of the biggest audiences to date as special guests on good-mates Lime Cordiale’s 14 Steps To A Better You national tour in Australia, followed up with a feature slot on Spacey Jane’s Here Comes Everybody national arena tour. Wanting to give their fans the full headline experience, Teenage Dads kicked off their 11 stop Exit Sign tour over May & June 2022, and wrapped up their Ready Teddy Go tour in December 2022 after playing a run of sold-out, headline shows across their home country. Initially announcing 13 dates, demand for tickets quickly saw the tour extended to 23 dates including sold out shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and more.
The band were also nominated for Best New Artist in the 2022 Rolling Stone Awards Australia alongside names including Genesis Owusu and MAY-A.
The Australian four-piece also recently appeared on triple j’s Like A Version, putting their own spin on The Buggles ‘80s anthem Video Killed The Radio Star as well as performing an electrifying rendition of original track Teddy.
Featuring recent singles “Hey, Diego!”, “Teddy” and “Exit Sign”, Teenage Dads’ upcoming ‘Midnight Driving’ EP also features three unreleased tracks that take a slight sonic detour from their distinctive upbeat, experimental sound and storylines, and instead take a slower, softer, more synth-heavy route.
Uncovering a side of their sound that is a little older and a little wiser, yet just as catchy and adventurous, the band explain that their forthcoming ‘Midnight Driving EP’ “... is about perspective. How things look from one point of view, and how they can change over time from another outlook. The songs feel like diary entries, documented internally, like conversations you have with yourself when you go Midnight Driving. A constant, internal form of therapy almost.”
Teenage Dads have little to prove about their ability to hold the attention of a crowd — following an extensive national tour across Australia and New Zealand this Spring, the band are showing no signs of slowing down and will also join homegrown favourites and good friends Lime Cordiale as special guests on their UK & Ireland tour. Kicking off on 16 May in Dublin, the tour will see stops in Liverpool, Bournemouth, Cambridge, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Newcastle and London. Full dates and details below.
