Out now – Red Hot Riot’s new album “Sacrifice to Paradise”

We’re so pleased to bring you news from one of my favourite bands around at the moment – the rockabilly/psychobilly legends Red Hot Riot from the Forest of Dean, who have just released their sophomore album “Sacrifice to Paradise”.

Red Hot Riot released the “Nineteen” EP in 2019 and followed this up with their debut album “Forget Me Not” in 2021. That album is still a regular play here at LiveWire Music and has a wealth of outstanding tracks, including Down the Rabbit Hole, Its What You Make of This, I Wanna Be Yours, Masquerade and the brilliant Life You Get, (check out the BOPFLIX Sessions video from Upstairs at Dougs on YouTube here):

Their latest release is the 2022 EP “Up the Riot”. Well now, Ricky Delaney (singer & guitar), Scott McParland (bass) and Daniel West (drums) are back with “Sacrifice to Paradise” which is out now and available to stream on all major platforms. The new album has been a labour of love and has taken 18 months to write from the first song to it’s completion. As well as writing it, it was also engineered by Ricky himself. The sound is that classic crisp and clear tone from rock’n roll and rockabilly, with his signature Gretsch guitar and Scotts brilliant (and energetic live !) standing bass slap style, it’s hypnotic and engaging.

Known as a rockabilly / psychobilly band, the new album sees them broaden their style and bring in a range of influences, as Ricky told us:

“I wouldn’t say it’s a rockabilly album, nor a Psychobilly album, not a rock or punk album….but I would I say there’s elements of all those genres in there. It’s inspired by bands such as Stray Cats, Living End, BlueCats, Nekromantix and even Green Day. We feel it’s the album that represents our live sound and experience most, and we truly hope people love it as much as we do”.

You can certainly see a difference from the first album, with a broader sound and there are some killer tracks, my favourites being All We Know, Last Day, 00:14 and Sleep When You’re Dead which is the track that most reminds me of some of the psychobilly classics, such as bands such as the Nekromantix and has added female vocals to add another dimension to their sound.  For a taster, check out Last Day here:

Another one that struck me was Hand Cuff Me which as it started, sounded not unlike the intro to All My Life by the Foo Fighters, but then explode into a wall of rockabilly rhythm taking the sound in a totally different direction.

The final track, No Room for You is a banger, and certainly has a Green Day edge to it, and in fact wouldn’t be out of place on “American Idiot”. Ricky tells us that “No Room For You is actually an old punk song by a band called Demob. They’re from the same town as us and I’m good friends with the original guitarist/singer who wrote the track. There is actually an interview somewhere with Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day and he mentions that Demob are an inspiration. So I’m guessing that he pulled from them for the American idiot album!”

The album artwork is fantastic and is drawn in the style of a classic rockabilly tattoo and Ricky tells us that it “represents time, and how it gets a hold of us all in some form or another but how we should allow change and progression rather than being held back by a devil within”.

“Sacrifice to Paradise” is out now and available on all major streaming platforms. Red Hot Riot are currently on the road, touring Europe with the amazing Delta Bombers and physical CD copies are only from shows at the moment But, on their return, the album will be made available on their store.
