Ferocious Dog / Rock City / Nottingham
Originally from Warsop in Nottinghamshire, Ferocious Dog have a huge following and a particularly strong fan base in Nottingham. They have a reputation for incredible, lively shows and this one at their spiritual home Rock City had all the signs of being a classic !
The band hosted a mini-all day event, with bands on Rock City’s Beta stage from 2pm including JollyRoger, Sir Curse, Shank’s Pony, Chloe Rogers and Nasty Fishmonger. Then, the main event kicked off on the main stage from 6.
First up on the main stage we had Fudge, a four-piece band from Leeds playing their biggest show to date - and boy, they don’t disappoint. They performed with a confidence and a swagger that makes you think they have more experience than they do. The set is fast paced, breathless and wild.
Next up on the main stage is Leslie George Carter, better known to some as Fruitbat from the 1980s band Carter USM. Now fronting Abdoujaparov, named after a famous cyclist (Djamolidine Abdoujaparov, from Uzbekistan to be precise loL) their songs are heavily punk influenced, the songs being fast and rebellious. They set the scene perfectly.

The scene has been set brilliantly, and the sell out crowd are ready for Ferocious Dog. You can almost feel the atmosphere and anticipation ! The band take the stage to a huge roar from the crowd and they dive headlong into a full 2 hour set full of all their favourites, and a high octane mix of folk and punk sounds. The heavy guitars are accompanied by (at various times) accordion, banjo, mandolin, cello and penny whistle. Their punk/folk sound is exceptional.
The mosh pit swirls into action, and fans climb on their friends shoulders waving their shirts and singing along.
After an hour and a half the band take a break, before returning for a full half hour encore ! They engage with the fans thanking them for their support and even doing some birthday greetings ! You can sense that the band have a relationship with the fans unlike most. A truly genuine, close tie that binds them together.
Wow…. What a night. The fans reluctantly leave, all with huge smiles on their faces. A band with a reputation for full on, amazing shows, this one took the crown…… But don’t worry, if you haven’t seen Ferocious Dog before, they will be back on tour late in 2022 on the “Never Too Late For Hope” tour.
